Pet Vaccinations: Because You Love Them

When you get your fur-baby vaccinated, you protect them from dangerous and highly contagious animal disease. Pet vaccinations are especially important for puppies and kittens. As they’re weaned from their mother’s milk, they receive less powerful antibodies. Pet vaccinations stimulate antibodies in your pet’s body using antigens. Safety and quality for the pets of Greenwood are top priorities at Vista Hills Animal Hospital. That’s why our animal hospital is accredited by AAHA and why we use only the finest quality and most advanced pet vaccinations.

Pet Wellness and Vaccinations

Depending on your pet’s needs, we recommend either annual or biannual wellness exams. Preventative care for your loyal animal companion is important, and regular wellness care helps us prevent a myriad of potential issues in your pet. This includes preventing the dangerous diseases pet vaccinations protect against. We customize vaccinations for your loved one and wellness care is the perfect time to discuss which vaccinations are best suited for your pet’s lifestyle. Certain vaccinations are considered “core” and we vaccinate every pet with these, along with vaccinating against rabies, which is required by law.

Some illnesses we may decide to protect your dog from are:

  • Lestospirosis, which is found in moist regions and standing water.
  • Bordetella, better known as kennel cough. It can affect boarded dogs.
  • Canine influenza, which is a highly contagious upper respiratory virus.

Some illnesses we may decide to protect your cat from are:

  • Chlamydia, which is a bacterial infection that affects cats in close contact.
  • Feline Leukemia, which affects outdoor cats.
  • Feline Bordetella, which can affect multi-cat households and those in shelters.

When You Should Get Your Pet Vaccinated

Since puppies and kittens are more susceptible to illness, they should receive their initial round of vaccination boosters between six and eight-week’s old. Whenever you bring a new pet into your home, please make a wellness appointment so we can discuss a vaccination schedule. Fur-babies should receive boosters every three to four weeks to further strengthen their immune systems. They’ll receive their last initial round of vaccinations around 15-week’s old. Adult pets will receive maintenance vaccinations either every year or every three years, depending on their lifestyle. Please contact us for more information about pet vaccinations for Greenwood and surrounding areas. We’re ready to answer any questions you may have.
